146 Front St.
SCITUATE, MA
The Mauralago Building at 146 Front Street is a two-story, mixed-use commercial building on the waterfront of Scituate Harbor in Scituate, MA. A once-popular landmark and retail hub dating from the late 1850’s, this building had been abandoned, condemned, and slated for demolition prior to the
launch of the extensive rehabilitation campaign. The design/ build team of HCMC, breathed new life, new purpose and new meaning into this heritage property, and succeeded in attaining the project’s goal, which was to recapture the property’s former glory, prosperity and community symbolism. A focus of the project was the preservation of the historic facade on Front Street while interior renovations required the gut renovation of more than 27,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space all in full compliance with building, life safety, energy and accessibility codes.
The Scituate Historical Society and the Scituate Chamber of Commerce jointly bestowed the 2009 Scituate Heritage Preservation Award to Harold Brown for his efforts in preserving the 1859 Welch Company building on Front Street in Scituate, MA
